Well, as you may have noticed the whole 301st post extravaganza thing never left the planning phases and is on the backburner for a bit. Not to worry, the new year may be bringing me some new equipment and thus bringing me a great deal of flexibility in making projects. Either way, I wanted to recap the month of December up to current and really touch on Christmas, as it was very unique this year:
December brought me a new job, and one which I am infinitely happy with. Although for the past two days I’ve been sick and consequently not there, I do actually miss being busy and the company of my coworkers. This is a first, and ::crosses fingers:: hopefully not a last.
December brought me the one month anniversary of what is shaping up to be a great relationship. I’m happy and I feel like I’ve met an equal, someone I can really relate to. It’s really something fantastic.
December, through a series of peculiarly-well timed events, brought me a little closer to my dad. Brought me into his world a bit. Although I wish a certain someone would also take part in it a little more often, perhaps they will eventually come around.
December brought me freedom from most of my debt, an indescribably good feeling. It’s a direct result of the job, but being coupled with my new priority set really set this domino effect into motion.
December brought me Christmas, which in turn brought me socks and underwear (from Mom), a really nice shirt and drum sticks (from Denise), a drummers throne (from Jackie), an invite to Oink (from Curdo), and various monetary gifts (from Dad, Kim, Grandma G, Grandpa, Grandma F, Aunt Mary Ellen, Jackie’s Parents, Donna, Kenny, Kristen). I think it’s evident what I’ll be doing for the next couple of months (until all of my sticks break, I get banned for having a bad ratio, and I turn into a bum from spending all of my money).
And for the first time in a long while, December brought me constant happiness due to all of the reasons listed above…
So it’s come to my attention that a lot of people don’t know that I have a job now. I guess I didn’t necessarily announce it because I didn’t want to jinx myself, but I think it’s safe to say that after a few days of work I’m really digging the new place. Also, because of the job, you can’t yell at me for not being online at 4am anymore. Those are the rules. I traded in my insanely liberal ways in lieu of some structure in my life.
Background Info: The company is Intuit Solutions, one of the premiere hosting companies/Pro Stores resellers in Philly. In case you’re unfamiliar, Pro Stores is just an easy solution to simultaneously sell your merch on a business website and Ebay. I’m in the design/development department and picking up more responsibility by the hour. I like the job because it’s a relatively easy-going atmosphere with good people and good tunes. I’ve done a bit of design work thus far, interacted with some clients, and tomorrow I’ll be setting up my first store online (exciting, but in that nerdy way). Things are going great and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this job will be a keeper (at least for a while).
Other than that there’s not much to say. Been hanging out with Jackie a lot, watching movies, getting into some new music, and being in a jolly, Christmas-y mood. I really can’t wait until the big day gets here, I’m psyched. I have some good gift ideas, and with a bit of luck I’ll have ample funds to get people everything they need.
On a related note, this is post #300!. I’ve decided to do something really cool for the next post. I’m thinking something along the lines of “I’m GREAT! The Best Of Gorm: Over 300 Posts And Counting, A Biopic.” as a title. We’ll see, it’s still in the development phases. That’s all for now.
It’s been three weeks since my last post and that is a travesty. Grant it, I’ve gone for weeks before without posting, but never over the Christmas / New Years break. So here is a summary of all the wonderful things that happened over the holidays:
When all was said and done with school, I came out on top with the following grades:
I’m quite pleased with myself as you can imagine. Especially since everyone (family, mostly) assumed that once you take time off from school, you never quite get back in the swing of it. In other, semi-related news, I just checked my schedule for next quarter only to find that none of the classes I registered for are there anymore. Next quarter is going to be easy! Kidding, I need to get that fixed ASAP, especially since school starts this upcoming Monday.
It was a festive Christmas here at Camp Gormley. Many gifts were exchanged and the spirit of the season was outstanding. My Aunt Dottie came in to stay with us for the week start XMas day and ending the Friday of that week. It was good seeing her and the rest of the family, everyone looks to be in good health and a little bit older, but I suppose I look much older to them too.
Now to the real meat of this sausage covered, tuna topped, steak abundant, pepperoni pizza of an entry: my Christmas gifts. I made out like a bandit this year and have the good to prove it. In short, I received: A bitchin set of samurai swords fashioned after those found in Kill Bill, which will allow me to smite evildoers. I also received some gift cards to Old Navy, H&M, American Express, etc. Next up are a few DVDs I received with one word reviews directly following them: War Of The Worlds (good), Lost In Translation (good), Office Space w/Flair (awesome), Aqua Teen Season 4 (hilarious), Batman Begins (rockin), and National Treasure (unviewed). I received Very Sexy For Him2 (cologne) from Rach. Smelling that stuff is like an orgasm for your nostrils! I also received an incredibly comfortable Nautica pajama set from Rach’s mom. Quite a good Christmas for Andrew, indeedy.
I saw the fireworks on New Years and they were pretty good. The rest of the night after the fireworks was very intense (in the good way) and everything seems to have ended on a good note. Now, for New Years resolutions, maybe I’ll post them some other time because right now my stomach is turning in knots. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and a stellar 2005.
“Time to return…”
..because I haven’t been updating as frequently as I would like to. I finally caught some time and had the idea to write a bit, so here goes…
School is going well, although I remember distinctly why I hated finals week. They throw all kinds of work at you at once. Luckily this is stuff that I worked on throughout the quarter, but it’s still a little overwhelming knowing that it all has to be in within a span of three days (for me, at least). I missed a few days of school throughout the quarter, and I know that’s going to have a pretty big effect on my overall grades. I need to really just break myself apart and start rebuilding from a better foundation. I lack drive in most cases, and it’s become quite evident to me in these past few weeks. I hate myself for being that way and am going to find a means to change it.
In other news, I may be getting a job for the Philadelphia Inquirer as an editor. That’s right. I had an interview this past Monday and I was told that I was “totally qualified” and to “expect a call soon”. That would be quite an exciting environment to be a part of and they told me they could work around my schedule. Rock! Imagine how cool it would be to work there as an editor, move up to journalist, and then just write awesome stories for a living. Yowza.
I’m certainly in the Xmas spirit, as I’ve been listening to the music, decorating the house, and breaking out in spotaneous carols on the el. All good things. I’ll be updating omre throughout the weekend as I finished the following: 1) Color Theory Project, 2) Design Project, 3) History Of Motion Media Presentation, and 4) Study for Art History Final.
“On on they send, on without end, their joyful tone to every home…”
So little to say and so much time… Here goes something….
My name is Andrew to everyone who knows me and nothing to the people who don’t. I rarely feel inclined to write about myself and this small text blurb is no exception. I’m a film maker, of sorts. A designer, of sorts. A musician, of sorts. A photographer, of sorts. An armada of etceteras march behind these four generals.
The point I’m trying to make is that I enjoy art in all of it’s forms, and try my best to creatively express myself in every medium I take a liking towards. As always, things like life get in the way of being a non-stop idea factory, but that life is something that I’m thoroughly enjoying at the moment.
It consists of my beautiful girlfriend who I am very much in love with, a job that pays me well to do work that I would otherwise be doing for free, and a family and friends that I wouldn’t trade the world for. It’s safe to assume that I’m walking on air/over water/atop mountain peaks (pick one… hell, pick all three).
