It seems to be an increasingly laughable trend in my life (and not just in regards to blogging): Whenever I resolve to do something, the exact opposite thing seems to happen. This isn’t out of lassitude or in spite of myself, I’ve narrowed the problem down to my thought process and how scattered it can be at times. My need to write about all sorts of things, big and small, often outweighs the fact that I had a single, initial point I wanted to get across from the get-go. Couple this with the fact that, after eight hours of working on web sites, I have no inclination at all to stare at my home computer screen and there’s the recipe for less Andrew online presence.
This kind of thinking spills over into my other walks of life as well. I get very excited when I think about taking up a new film project or site design, but I want to take it in so many directions that I inadvertently inspire a need to sit down and organize it all. When I think about what will actually have to go into any kind of medium-to-large-scale production, I immediately get sullen at the beginning steps which need to be taken, my least favorite part of any project: the planning stages.
So, this year, I’ve taken route of trying to make adjustments to the “core” of myself in the hopes that it will filter out to all of my other facets that I like to hold in high esteem. For instance, I’m resolving to work on my planning and organization. I know that this will require a calendar, so I’m hooking it up with iCal on my computer to get larger projects or goals organized into tasks that seem less daunting. I think this will help me out with things like design and film projects. I can block out days or hours for conceptualizing or getting together with a group of writers, take it one step at a time, then see it through to the end.
In the beginning and the end, it’s the little things. Adjust the little things and expect big change.
I’m sorry, January. You know I didn’t mean that. I was just playing, that’s all.
I wanted to update because I haven’t written anything in quite a bit. So far this month has gone by very quickly and it shows no signs of slowing, either. I’ve worked a lot and played a little… which is something I would ultimately like to change, if possible. I’m just so tired after work that I feel like doing little-to-nothing. Couple that with the fact that this weather is getting more bitter by the day and you have the perfect formula for creating a shut-in.
Either way, I’m now taking steps to rectify that and hopefully see friends more often than I currently do (rarely). Goal number one is to get the car running by the end of the month. Just get some decent insurance going and have it inspected pre-emptively so there are no unexpected issues that crop up when driving to and from somewhere important. Goal number two is to buy some decent winter clothes to combat this stupid weather. It sounds silly, but I don’t own a really good winter coat that I like wearing. So this weekend I’m gonna buy a heavy duty Carhartt/Dickies work jacket or hood, so I don’t have to keep layering the shit out of myself everywhere I go. Goal number three also happens this weekend: get another god damn cell phone. I’ve lived in the dark ages long enough. I’m going to sign up for Cingular (soon to become AT&T) and get me a Blackberry Pearl so I can be one of the cool kids again. The job now affords me all kinds of interesting stuff, so I’m definitely sticking around there because they appreciate the work I do, and they compensate me fairly for the work performed. Gotta love respect in the workplace.
That’s all for now, kids. By the end of the month I also intend to have my new website provisioned at the very least. Maybe a February opening. So stay tuned for all that good stuff.
It’s been three weeks since my last post and that is a travesty. Grant it, I’ve gone for weeks before without posting, but never over the Christmas / New Years break. So here is a summary of all the wonderful things that happened over the holidays:
When all was said and done with school, I came out on top with the following grades:
I’m quite pleased with myself as you can imagine. Especially since everyone (family, mostly) assumed that once you take time off from school, you never quite get back in the swing of it. In other, semi-related news, I just checked my schedule for next quarter only to find that none of the classes I registered for are there anymore. Next quarter is going to be easy! Kidding, I need to get that fixed ASAP, especially since school starts this upcoming Monday.
It was a festive Christmas here at Camp Gormley. Many gifts were exchanged and the spirit of the season was outstanding. My Aunt Dottie came in to stay with us for the week start XMas day and ending the Friday of that week. It was good seeing her and the rest of the family, everyone looks to be in good health and a little bit older, but I suppose I look much older to them too.
Now to the real meat of this sausage covered, tuna topped, steak abundant, pepperoni pizza of an entry: my Christmas gifts. I made out like a bandit this year and have the good to prove it. In short, I received: A bitchin set of samurai swords fashioned after those found in Kill Bill, which will allow me to smite evildoers. I also received some gift cards to Old Navy, H&M, American Express, etc. Next up are a few DVDs I received with one word reviews directly following them: War Of The Worlds (good), Lost In Translation (good), Office Space w/Flair (awesome), Aqua Teen Season 4 (hilarious), Batman Begins (rockin), and National Treasure (unviewed). I received Very Sexy For Him2 (cologne) from Rach. Smelling that stuff is like an orgasm for your nostrils! I also received an incredibly comfortable Nautica pajama set from Rach’s mom. Quite a good Christmas for Andrew, indeedy.
I saw the fireworks on New Years and they were pretty good. The rest of the night after the fireworks was very intense (in the good way) and everything seems to have ended on a good note. Now, for New Years resolutions, maybe I’ll post them some other time because right now my stomach is turning in knots. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and a stellar 2005.
“Time to return…”
So little to say and so much time… Here goes something….
My name is Andrew to everyone who knows me and nothing to the people who don’t. I rarely feel inclined to write about myself and this small text blurb is no exception. I’m a film maker, of sorts. A designer, of sorts. A musician, of sorts. A photographer, of sorts. An armada of etceteras march behind these four generals.
The point I’m trying to make is that I enjoy art in all of it’s forms, and try my best to creatively express myself in every medium I take a liking towards. As always, things like life get in the way of being a non-stop idea factory, but that life is something that I’m thoroughly enjoying at the moment.
It consists of my beautiful girlfriend who I am very much in love with, a job that pays me well to do work that I would otherwise be doing for free, and a family and friends that I wouldn’t trade the world for. It’s safe to assume that I’m walking on air/over water/atop mountain peaks (pick one… hell, pick all three).
